Despite not loving AI, I still keep a voice assistant device in my home because sometimes I like to set a timer or get news and weather without having to look at a device. Honestly, I think these types of menial interactions are the peak usefulness of a lot of this technology, and I'm cool to pretend this is most of what they can do.

It's supposed to be getting cooler tonight, so I asked about the weather. Here's how that exchange went.

"Alexa, what's the temp outside like?"

"Right now it's 95 degrees. Tonight you can expect a low of 69 degrees."

"What time will the temperature start to drop?

"It will drop to 85 at 6pm and continue to drop from there."

"Cool."

"Yeah, it will be a welcome break from this heat. Got any plans this weekend?"

"Oh...we don't have to do this. We don't have to pretend we're friends..."

"Understood."
